In terms of Qur'ān study, It is an accredited certificate that grants its holder the authority of transmitting and/or teaching Qur'ān recitation with tajwīd or Qur'ān Memorization according to Ijāzah type. It is also the highest degree of reading perfection of the Quran. There are two types:
1) Authorization of recitation. and;
2) Authorization of transmission.

To get the ijāzah, the student has to recite the Qurʾān from beginning to end, observing all the rules of Tajwīd to a Qārī who him/herself has an Ijāzah of transmission.

What is a "Sanad"?

A “Sanad” linguistically means chain or something that connects one thing to another and its technical meaning means Muslims who are connected to other Muslims (by scholastic lineage). Sanad is a certificate that traces back to the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. Anyone granted Ijāzah is called a “Mujīz” literally one who has been granted Ijāzah. All the members of the chain are known for their perfection in the reciting. Furthermore, Sanad is a certificate that traces back to the Prophet ﷺ and his companions.
