Al-Hera Loughborough

What we do

Al Hera is an Islamic Youth Organisation that caters for young Muslims in Loughborough. Founded in 1997, Al Hera has successfully been running various classes, events and clubs for the youth, to give them a safe place to play, enjoy and learn about Islam. Our main aim is to develop their skills and use their potential to create future leaders.

Currently we have 2 youth clubs, a football club and a study circle that runs on a weekly basis. We also have annual events such as trips, bbq fun days, lectures, fundraising events and a big conference at the end of every year.

Alḥamdullilāh for the last 3 years we’ve been doing a brilliant session for the youngsters in our community called MYP – Muslim Youth Programme.

We have monthly/bi-weekly sessions, where we go through relevant topics that affect the youth. We deliver the sessions in a fun and engaging way.

Some of the topics we have covered are –

  • Racism
  • Bullying
  • Mental health
  • Having high aspirations
  • Drugs
  • Music
  • COVID-19
  • Tawḥīd
  • Shirk

Since the lockdown was enforced we’ve continued to do our sessions online via Zoom. It’s opened up our audience to many new viewers, different age groups and backgrounds.

Stories of the Prophets

SotP

Stories of the Prophets is an Islamic Studies class for boys and girls aged between 6-13 years old. Lessons are based on the authentic stories of the Prophets, teaching them how to act according to the prophetic ways such as giving respect, engaging in good manners and the knowing the importance of Tawheed and avoiding shirk.

Sessions are taught using various forms of media such as PowerPoint presentations, animated videos, book reading and paper based activities. Attendance averages around 30-40 students and is taught within the masjid to instill a good connection with the place of worship.

We regularly receive great feedback from students and the parents are very supportive. Classes are free and funded by donations.

Residential, Football & Trips

Community Development

Residential

Travelling while your young is such an exciting experience. The thought of not having your family with you and escaping familiar surroundings is something not all young people experience. Alhamdullilah, Al-Hera having been organising annual residentials for young people for the past 12 years. The purpose and objective of these residentials is to allow young people to have fun, learn about Islam and gain brotherhood in an Islamic environment. Opportunities to have time away from all the distractions that we have in our society are very few. The residentials are there to stimulate our young people and challenge them in a positive way.

Football Sessions

In a world of constant distractions, physical activities have become less popular. The Al-Hera football sessions started 10 years ago in Cobden Primary school. What started off as 1-hour sessions on a Sunday afternoon has developed into so much more. There are two sessions a week, 1 indoor and one outdoor. The opportunity to play on different pitches is something not everyone gets to experience. Some of our young people have even gone on to achieve level 1 FA coaching qualifications. The sessions are just about playing but to remind people about their character and behaviour on and off the pitch. After the sessions short reminders are given to help bring positive change.

Trips

Al-Hera organise regular trips and outings for young people. These trips are very well received and thoroughly enjoyed. Whether it’s bowling or a trip to the park, these experiences are invaluable. The trips are a reward for those that have participated in regular Al-Hera activities and some are even rewarded with a trip free of charge due to their behaviour and commitment to the Al-Hera projects.
